Do you have vaper’s tongue? Have you stopped being able to taste your vape? Do your favourite vapes not taste the same anymore?

If you suspect you have vaper’s tongue, let’s look into what vaper’s tongue is, what causes it, and how you can effectively avoid it.

What Is Vaper’s Tongue?

Vaper’s tongue or vaper’s fatigue is very common, especially in beginner vapers who are unaware of the problem. But don’t worry because it’s not permanent. In fact, it’s quite easy to overcome it so long as you know how. If you’re used to vaping the same flavour for hours on end, you can often experience a loss of taste after some time. However, this is completely normal and you don’t need to panic. And if you want to learn more about vaper’s tongue, we’ll tell you all there is to know!

What Causes Vaper’s Tongue?

  • If you’ve been vaping the same flavour for too long, it can cause you to lose your sense of taste.
  • Also, if your tastebuds become damaged due to infections, smoking, spicy foods, alcohol, or even some medications, then it can lead to vaper’s fatigue as well.
  • Dehydration or mouth dryness can contribute to the condition.
  • A blocked nose can disrupt your sense of smell which causes you to not be able to fully taste the flavours.
  • Some medications and illnesses like the flu and cold can also lead to vaper’s tongue. Plus, vitamin deficiencies and head injuries are also quite common.
  • If you’ve just recently quit smoking, it could also be a reason that you can’t taste your vape juice.
  • Even the best vapes in Canada will have an expiration date. The e-juice will typically change both taste and colour at this point, so it’s best to avoid such vapes altogether.

How to Avoid Vaper’s Fatigue?

Now, the real question is how you can avoid vaper’s tongue. Like we said, it’s pretty common. It happens to the best of us and usually subsides within 1-3 days – nothing too serious. In rare cases, though, it can last up to two weeks. But then again, you can always do your best to avoid it, here’s how:

1. Try a Different Flavour

Sometimes all you need to do is switch flavours and you’ll be fine. We get it, it’s hard to stop smoking your favourite fruit flavours but if you’re experiencing vaper’s tongue, you should probably try a different flavour, and once the condition subsides, you can come back to that flavour in a couple of weeks. However, it can also be a good idea to try a non-flavoured vape like The Flavourless by LIX because this can also help you regain your sense of taste.

2. Use a Stronger Flavour

A stronger flavour like mint or menthol is also effective in bringing back your sense of taste. We recommend LIX’s Mint Condition – it’s the best mint flavour in vapes in Canada. So who knows, maybe it will be your next favourite flavour?

3. Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is important. It helps prevent dry mouth so you won’t have to deal with vaper’s fatigue in the first place.

4. Take a Whiff of Coffee Beans

The coffee bean technique is already popular with wine tasters because the aroma helps you refresh and reset your senses. Even though we don’t know how it happens, it works and so we would definitely recommend using coffee beans to restore your tastebuds.

5. Suck on a Lemon

The citrus from lemons can also help refresh your tastebuds. And no, you don’t necessarily have to suck on a sour lemon, you can simply try a lemon dessert or whatever you like and it will still have the same effect.

6. Mouth Wash

Just like a stronger vape flavour would help you regain your sense of taste, so would a strong mouthwash. So, if you’re experiencing vaper’s tongue, this could be the perfect solution for you.

7. Cut Back on Caffeine & Alcohol

Highly caffeinated beverages can dry out your mouth which can in turn lead to vaper’s tongue, so try to cut back on caffeine if this is an issue for you.

8. Use an Oral Hydration Product

Sometimes drinking water isn’t enough, and so, you can also try using an oral hydration product like Biotene to treat dry mouth, and ultimately avoid vaper’s fatigue. It is generally available quite readily in toothpastes, sprays, mouthwashes, and overnight gels.

9. Clean Your Tongue

If your tastebuds can’t fully sense flavour, it might simply be because they’re blocked. So, the next time you brush your teeth, make sure to brush over your tongue as well.

10. Don’t Chain Vape

Chain vaping is bad. You need to take breaks between puffs. If you don’t then you’ll end up with vaper’s fatigue, or worse, your device will stop working altogether. So, give your tastebuds a rest and go easy on the vape.
